Having a Website vs. Having a Facebook Page

One of the reasons business owners do not invest in a website is that they have a Facebook Page.

They think that they would not need anything else. And the simple truth is that a Facebook page will never replace a website because a Facebook page cannot perform for you online the way that a website can.Search Engines will always give more significance to a website over a Facebook page. If people are searching for you, typically they will see your website before seeing any social media pages. It may show up on a search engine a few places below. But rarely is it going to have high placement on a search engine.

Information or Interaction

Also, the website is increasingly becoming a business’ online business card. Unless a company is investing in marketing, the search engine platforms have made it so that information is the driving force behind placement. Websites give necessary information up front while a Facebook page drives interaction, not information.

Website>Facebook

While both are essential, to have a Facebook page without a website is missing out on potential customer traffic. People will want to see a website over a facebook page; especially when specific links to a facebook page require you login to see it. That added step is usually too cumbersome for the casual peruser, and they will find someone else who has an easy to find site.

Missing: Gen Z

On top of all of this, Facebook’s audience has matured significantly in the last ten years with the median age being 25-35-year-olds. To best reach your audience you may need to reconsider how you are utilizing Facebook. If wanting to target a younger audience, Facebook will not be a good match for your demographics. A good question to ask yourself is what value does Facebook bring to my business? Because of changing algorithms many posts go unseen by users unless you pay to boost your post. We have seen this shift most drastically in the last two year where less than ten users will see a post that used to garner thousands of views without a boost.
